Jawa Scavenger Rig

Another lunch sketch that I came back to haunt me a few years later. A follow up idea also based on The Force Awakens' Jakku, it was much smaller in it's original conception, but eventually my AT-AT trash collector became more of a Howl's Moving Castle, multi-trailered, nomadic scavenging rig. I really liked the Mad Max feeling from some of the early Jakku concept art and the compositing of many vehicles seemed like a natural result if Jawas existed on that planet. The ultimate scavenger tinkerers. Artistically, this was another exercise in stretching my modeling skills and finding where to jump from 2D to 3D and back again.

Even between the last step and this a lot changes as I added little story moments here and there to bring the viewer in, balance the composition more, and show how this thing functions.

The last render before I start painting.

I always do a light sketchover to explore composition and focal points.

You can see I had an idea for a tractor trailer like AT-AT caravan early on in the Star Destroyer settlement painting. It didn't make the cut, but the idea stuck.

Marker and colored pencil. Probably 2 lunch breaks' worth of time. As free time is so fleeting now, sketchbook ideas are really great to just have something ready to tackle.
