For a short, short period, it looked like there was going to be some kind of narratively driven, platformery, explorationy adventure Tetris game - an effort to reinvigorate the franchise. It didn't get past the blue sky phase, but I really wish it had. There was a lot of cool stuff. Even before the work I've got posted, there was a wider bit of exploration, but we ended up focusing on a kind of abstract, Tetris fable/mythology taking visual cues from Russian folk art and world building/exploring from Minecraft.

A final presentation piece of what the Tetris world might look like. We really focused hard on keeping things graphic and clean to fit the hard edged, polygonal look of Tetris blocks.

The final linework before getting to the final painting. The earlier rough sketch was a little all over the place in terms of focus, so I made a greater effort to define a player path.

For inspirational images, I tried to create a vast panoramic world with interesting mini compositions everywhere the eye could see.

The early direction was to create a fable like world that was heavily Russian inspired, like the original game. I designed a mythological hero that's part bear, part racoon, part nesting doll and covered him with nature ornamentation.

Our hero was vaguely going to be the caretaker of the natural world. Whatever challenges the Tetris kingdom faced, he/she/it was going to fix it. Possibly with nature or controlling the tetriminos.

The gameplay was up in the air, but it was likely going to balance minecraft-like world building (block bending :) with Tetris gameplay challenges.
